OVC to Hold Basketball Championship at Nashville Municipal Auditorium Through 2017

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The Ohio Valley Conference announced on Thursday that it has reached an agreement with Nashville’s Municipal Auditorium to continue to host its Men’s and Women’s  Basketball Championships at the venue through the 2017 Championship.

“We are delighted to continue our relationship with both Municipal Auditorium and the city of Nashville,” said OVC Commissioner Beth DeBauche. “As a result of improvements to the facility and the continued support of both the venue and the city, we can continue to make Municipal Auditorium and Nashville the home of our premier championship.”

The combined OVC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships have been held at Municipal Auditorium nine previous times (1994, 1995, 1996, 2004, 2008, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014) while the men’s-only championship was also held at the venue in both 1967 and 1989.

The 2015 OVC Basketball Championship is scheduled to be held at the venue from March 4-7 while the 2016 OVC Basketball Championship will be held March 2-5 and the 2017 OVC Championship will run March 1-4.

The Ohio Valley Conference office has been headquartered in the Nashville area for over 30 years. Entering this year the OVC Basketball Championship has been held in Nashville in 20 of the past 21 years

“We look forward to providing an exceptional tournament experience for the student-athletes, fans, coaches, and officials attending the games.”

Since the OVC returned to Municipal Auditorium in 2011 the venue has undergone extensive renovations including a new basketball court, new seating, a new scoreboard as well as locker rooms improvements and new OVC-branded signage with other future improvements currently in the works.
