ATHENS, Ga. – Jacksonville State finished with a three-day total of 955 to post a Top 20 finish at the NCAA Women’s Golf East Regional at the University of Georgia Golf Course.
Jacksonville State, which earned its fourth straight NCAA Regional appearance after winning the Ohio Valley Conference Championship last month, shot rounds of 327-315-313.
Second-seeded Florida held off top-seeded Duke to claim a one-stroke victory over the three-time defending National Champions. Georgia turned the low team loop of the day on Saturday, a 290, and finished third at 889. Rounding out the top-eight teams advancing to the NCAA Championships were Auburn at 894, Virginia at 898, South Carolina and Wake Forest both at 899 and Furman at 900.
Senior Mercedes Huarte shot her second straight round of 75 on Saturday to post a three round total of 226 to tie for 27th place to lead the Gamecocks.
Freshman Laura Cutler also shot a 75 and carded a 54-hole score of 240, while Ashley Cox finished her second NCAA event with a 243. Portia Abbott carded a 246 and Alexandra Espinosa turned in a 260.
