UT MARTIN 2, TENNESSEE TECH 1
MARTIN, Tenn. - UT Martin defeated Tennessee Tech, 2-1, to advance to play Jacksonville State in the championship of the 2010 Ohio Valley Conference Softball Tournament. The Golden Eagles ended the season with a 28-30 overall mark.
The Skyhawks scored all their runs in the bottom of second as Laurie Lindow and Megan Williams each drove in a run.
The Golden Eagles cut the lead in half in the fifth when Melody Christian drove in a run. That was as close as Tech would get.
Lindow and Williams each recorded two hits to lead UT Martin. Leading the way for Tech was Chanelle Spalding and Callie Schmidt with one hit each.
Kate Vanderham earned the win in the circle for the Skyhawks as she struck out seven. Tennessee Tech's Holly Thomas was tagged with the loss.
JACKSONVILLE STATE 10, UT MARTIN 1
MARTIN, Tenn. - Jacksonville State defeated UT Martin, 10-1, in five innings to win its second OVC softball tournament title. The Gamecocks earned the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Jacksonville State got on the board first in the top of the second as the scored a run. The Gamecocks would add four in the third and five in the fourth. UT Martin pushed a run across the plate in the bottom of the fourth.
Kelci Johnston and Nikki Prier led the Gamecocks with three hits each. Johnston hit a pair of home runs and knocked in a team-high five RBI in the game.
Kalah Mathis drove in the Skyhawks lone run.
Ashley Eliasson earned the win in the circle while Kate Vanderham took the loss
