OVC SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT SCORES – May 10

#5 TENNESSEE TECH 6, #6 SAMFORD 5

JACKSONVILLE, Ala.Fifth-seeded Tennessee Tech defeated No. 6 Samford, 6-5, to advance to the championship game of the 2008 Ohio Valley Conference Softball Tournament. The Golden Eagles will play Jacksonville State this afternoon.

 

Tech’s Stephanie Fischer hit two home runs, including the walk off three-run shot in the bottom of the seventh. She set a new single-season OVC home run record with her first dinger of the day in the fourth inning. Fischer now has 27 home runs this season. Maddie Schmissrauter earned the win for the Golden Eagles, striking out three in 4.2 innings of action.

 

Jeslyn Metcalf led the Bulldogs at the plate going 3-for-3. Kristy Lawrence drove in a pair of runs while Amanda Barrs and Katie England each had one RBI. Margaret Carter was tagged with the loss as she allowed three runs.

 

#1 JACKSONVILLE STATE 10, #5 TENNESSEE TECH 5

JACKSONVILLE, Ala.Top-seeded Jacksonville State defeated No. 5 Tennessee Tech, 10-1, in six innings to earn the OVC Softball Tournament title and the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Gamecocks will find out their opponent in the NCAA tourney tomorrow night at 9:00 p.m. CT on ESPNU.

 

Courtney Underwood led the Gamecock offense as she went 2-for-4 with four RBI in the game. Rachel Fleming also recorded two hits and drove in a pair of runs. Chrissy O’Neal also had two RBI for JSU. Ashley Eliasson earned the win, allowing just one run and striking out three.

 

Amanda Glover hit a solo home run to provide all the Tech offense. She finished the day with two hits. Maddie Schmissrauter took the loss for the Golden Eagles, allowing five runs and striking out a pair.
