Eastern Illinois Men and Women Win 2009 OVC Track and Field Titles

The Eastern Illinois men and women won their respective titles at the 2009 Ohio Valley Conference Track and Field Championship.  It marks the 10th outdoor title for the Panther men while it’s the second for the EIU women.

 

The EIU men earned 227 points to finish first while Eastern Kentucky was in second with 141 points. Southeast Missouri finished third with 124 points followed by Tennessee State (45), Texas-Pan American (26) and Morehead State (6)

 

On the women’s side, the Panthers recorded 188 points while Southeast Missouri placed second with 155. Murray State finished third with 91.50 points followed by Jacksonville State (78.50), Austin Peay (76.50), Eastern Kentucky (72), Tennessee State (53) and Tennessee Tech (25.50).

 

Eastern Illinois’ Tom Akers was named both the Men’s and Women’s Coach of the Year.  It his 10th Men’s Coach of the Year honor and his first women’s coach of the year award.

 

Picking up Male Athlete of the Championship honors was Eastern Illinois’ Zye Boey. Boey, who was named the OVC Co-Male Track Athlete of the Year, earned first place finishes in the 200 meter dash (21.09) and 100 meters (10.30)

 

Murray State’s Taylor Crawford was named Female Athlete of the Championship. The 2009 OVC Female Track Athlete of the Year took the individual titles in the 800 meters (2:13.71) and the 1,500 meters (4:31.97).
