The 2009 Ohio Valley Conference Tennis Tournament is set to begin Friday, April 17, and will run through Sunday, April 19. The tournament, hosted by Murray State University will be held at the Larry Heflin Tennis Center in Paducah, Ky.
Eastern Kentucky’s men’s and women’s teams, both first-time regular season champions, look to build on their successes of the 2009 season in the hunt for a first-ever OVC Tournament Championship. Both squads are coming into the tournament undefeated in conference play.
On the women’s side, Eastern Kentucky seeks to improve on last year’s second place tournament finish. The top-seeded Lady Colonels will begin play in the semifinal round on Saturday at 10:00am going up against the first-round winner of the match between No. 4 Jacksonville State and No. 5 Tennessee Tech while second-seed UT Martin awaits the winner of No. 3 Murray State and No. 6 Eastern Illinois. The women’s championship match will be played on Sunday at 10:00am.
On the men’s side, first-round play begins Friday at 2:00pm with No. 4 seed Murray State taking on No. 5 Morehead State, while third-seeded Tennessee Tech takes on No. 6, Eastern Illinois. Top-seeded Eastern Kentucky and No. 2, Jacksonville State each earned first round buys and begin play on Saturday afternoon. Jacksonville State, last year’s runner up, looks to take home the crown for the first time since 2007. The championship match is scheduled for Sunday, April 19 at 2:00pm.
