 Eastern Illinois University Eastern Illinois continues to rank in the 'top tier' of Midwest public universities, according to the annual guide "America's Best Colleges" released by U.S. News & World Report. EIU constantly is ranked in the top 10 percent of graduation rates among its peer midwestern institutions, class sizes averages are small and the cost is below the national average. Eastern Kentucky University Despite growing to a comprehensive university offering 168 degree programs and serving more than 16,000 students a year, Eastern Kentucky has never lost its small-college feel that dates back to its founding in 1906. EKU is able to offer its students the personal attention they need to suceed; classes are generally small, and they're usually taught by professors, not graduate students.
