Two Ohio Valley Conference volleyball student-athletes have been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District first-team as selected by CoSIDA.

The selections included Tennessee Tech senior Teresa Craig out of District IV and Southeast Missouri State senior Molly Davis out of District VII.

For making the first-team each of the players will have her name appear on the national ballot for consideration for Academic All-American later this month. The ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America volleyball team will be announced on Monday, Nov. 23.

The competition is extremely tough for the volleyball selections as only six people (or seven with a tie) make each of the first-team all-district squads. That comes from a group of over 100 nominated for each district.

After earning second team honors last year, Craig was named to the first team this season, meaning that she will advance to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration later this month. In her three years at Tech, Craig has maintained a 4.0 grade point average in political science. According to Blair, her intelligence on the volleyball court rivals her intelligence in the classroom. So far this season, Craig has 143 kills and a .195 hitting percentage - both career highs. The Muncie, Ind., native also has 198 digs this season to give her 949 for her career. Craig, who has played in every set this season except for one which she missed because she was taking the LSAT, will likely finish her career in the top-five for sets played in Golden Eagle history. Craig has played in 430 sets at Tech and needs to play in just 10 more to move into fifth place.

Last year Davis was one of 18 players named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American team, when she was a third-team selection. Davis, the team's starting libero since her freshman season, currently holds a perfect 4.0 grade point average in Sports Management and currently leads and the Ohio Valley Conference in digs with an average of 5.55 digs per set. That average ranks her sixth nationally and has helped the team rank second in the nation in digs per set at 19.34. Davis is the school record holder in career digs with 2,162 becoming the only player in Southeast Missouri State volleyball history to have over 2,000 career digs. Her 538 digs this season ranks 11th on the school's single season charts. The Muncie, Indiana native also owns the Redhawks D-I single season record for digs with 637 set last season. That mark stands as third-best on the all-time single season charts. Her 540 digs that she recorded during her freshman campaign is tied for ninth on the school's single season charts. Academically she was named to the OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll for the second-straight time last season and was a recipient of the OVC's highest academic award, the OVC Medal of Honor, for the second-straight season. She is also a three-time Southeast Scholar-Athlete honoree.

To be eligible for nomation, a student-athlete must have reached sophomore academic standing and have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average. District IV selections come from schools located within the states of Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. District VII selections come from schools located within the states of Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming and the Canadian provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan.
