2009 OVC Players of the Week - November 2, 2009

Offensive:
Karleigh DeLong, RS, Sr., 5'11

DeLong averaged 5.29 kills per set as Southeast Missouri split a pair of Conference matches last week. She also posted 2.29 digs each time out. Against Murray State, she recorded a match-high 21 kills, marking her third match with 20-plus kills this season. She finished with a .269 attack percentage as she committed just seven attack errors on a match-best 52 attempts. She also chipped in seven digs. In the UT Martin match, she again led all players with 16 kills, nine of which came in the deciding set. She had a match-high 38 swings, committing just two errors for a .368 attack percentage. DeLong added two service aces for a match-best 20 points.

Defensive:

Wallace led the team in digs over the weekend, notching 26 digs in Eastern Illinois' win over UT Martin. She followed that up with a career-best 28 digs against Murray State. She has now recorded double-digit digs in 18 straight matches this season.

Setter:
Sarah Barth, S, Sr., 5'11

, Ill. - Southeast Missouri
Barth dished out 84 assists over Southeast Missouri's two matches last week. She also averaged 2.86 digs per set. Barth recorded her third double-double of the season against Murray State with a match-high 47 assists and 13 digs. She also added six kills, one service ace and one block assist while hitting .250. Barth led all players with 37 assists in just three sets against Ut Martin. She added seven digs and two kills in the match.

2009 Ohio Valley Conference Volleyball Team Notes

Austin Peay (12-2 OVC; 19-6 overall): Austin Peay defeated Morehead State (22-25, 25-19, 25-14, 25-23) and Eastern Kentucky (25-22, 20-25, 25-9, 25-18) last week. Senior Kirstin Distler posted a .396 attack percentage over the two matches, tallying 23 kills. Against Morehead State, Distler had an errorless performance, recording 11 kills and a .407 attack percentage. Junior Sarah Alisaleh had 43 assists, 13 digs, three kills and two blocks versus the Eagles. She finished the week with 91 assists. Senior Stephanie Champine recorded 32 kills over the two matches to move into 10th on the schools single-season kills lists with 405. A victory in any of its final five regular-season matches would give Austin Peay its second straight 20-win season and ninth overall. It would be the Lady Govs first back-to-back 20-win campaigns since posting three such seasons from 1991-93. Austin Peay continues its five-match road trip this week with a non-conference contest at Lipscomb followed by league matches at Jacksonville State and Tennessee Tech. Eastern Illinois (3-12 OVC; 10-18 overall): Eastern Illinois split a pair of OVC matches last week, defeating UT Martin (21-25, 26-24, 25-15, 25-17) and falling to Murray State (25-14, 25-22, 12-25, 23-25, 10-15). The Panthers' 10 wins so far this season have already doubled the squad's five-win total from last year. Junior Alex Zwettler recorded a double-double in each match to give her 16 on the season. She finished the week with 32 kills and 31 digs. Sophomore Brittany Wallace posted a team-leading 54 digs over the two matches. Sophomore Chrissie Albers dished out 88 assists, including 45 against the Skyhawks. She also chipped in 32 digs last week. The Panthers will host Eastern Kentucky on Friday and Morehead State on Saturday. Both matches can be seen on OVCSports.TV.

Eastern Kentucky ( 5-8 OVC; 6-17 overall): Eastern Kentucky split a pair of OVC matches last week, picking up a win over Tennessee State (25-21, 25-18, 25-20) and losing to Austin Peay (22-25, 25-20, 9-25, 18-25). Junior Lauren Snyder recorded a double-double against Tennessee State, finishing with a match-best 10 kills and 11 digs. Autumn Harms added six kills and a .400 attack percentage. Junior Kate Hendle posted a match-best 29 assists and added three digs. The Colonels wore pick socks and hair ribbons for the past two matches in support of breast cancer awareness month. For every home court victory in the month of October the EKU volleyball program donated $100 to the Susan B. Koman Foundation. The Colonels finished with six wins at home in the month of October. Eastern Kentucky will travel to Eastern Illinois on Friday and Southeast Missouri on Saturday. The match with Eastern Illinois can be seen on OVCSports.TV.

Jacksonville State (14-0 OVC; 21-5 overall): Jacksonville State defeated Tennessee Tech (18-25, 23-25, 25-18, 30-28, 15-13). Junior Caitlin Vorbeck recorded 18 kills on a .448 attack percentage to lead the Gamecocks. Sophomore Lauren Harkins tallied a team-best 26 digs to move into fourth place on the school's single-season digs list with 497 this year. Junior Brooke Schumacher moved into fifth on JSU's career assists list and is second in school's Division I history. Jacksonville State has won its last 10 matches that have gone into a fifth set. The Gamecocks will host Austin Peay on Friday and Tennessee State on Saturday. Both matches can be seen on OVCSports.TV.

Morehead State  (10-4 OVC; 18-8 overall): Morehead State earned a split last week, falling Austin Peay (25-22, 19-25, 25-25, 23-25) and defeating Tennessee State (25-16, 25-16, 25-26, 25-9). Senior Kristina Schoo, one of only five players in the history of the OVC to collect more than 2,000 digs, broke the Morehead State career record on Saturday, upping her total to 2,098 and bettering the previous record of 2,082. Sophomore Emma Keough set a school single-match record for hitting percentage (.824) when she totaled 14 kills with no errors on 17 attempts against TSU. She also tallied nine total blocks in the match. Freshman Annie Gruenschlaeger is only eight block assists shy of breaking the school's season record of 122. She also had 13 kills, a .520 attack percentage and five blocks versus Tennessee State. Junior Kristie Brangers dished out 88 assists over the two matches. Morehead State will travel to Southeast Missouri on Friday and Eastern Illinois on Saturday. The match with EIU can be seen on OVCSports.TV.

Murray State (8-6 OVC;  8-16 overall):  Murray State posted wins over Southeast Missouri (25-16, 18-25, 25-19, 25-18) and Eastern Illinois (14-25, 22-25, 25-12, 25-23, 15-10). The two wins marked the Racers' first two road victories of the season. Sophomore Logan Su tallied 20 kills on a .281 attack percentage over the two matches. Against Southeast Missouri, she tallied 14 kills and a .317 hitting percentage. Sophomore Kayleah Sauer led the team in digs with 51, including 26 in the win over Southeast Missouri. Sophomore Jade Guo dished out 85 assists over the two matches and helped the team hit .249 last week. Sophomore Sara Hayden tied a school record for most block assists in a match with 10 against Eastern Illinois. The Racers will travel to UT Martin on Thursday before returning home to host SIU Edwardsville on Saturday. The match with UTM can be seen on OVCSports.TV.

Southeast Missouri (6-8 OVC; 10-15 overall): Southeast Missouri fell to Murray State (16-25, 25-18, 19-25, 18-25) before defeating UT Martin (25-18, 25-14, 27-25) last week. The Redhawks recorded their second straight match in which they recorded an attack percentage of .200 as they averaged .235 for the week. Senior Karleigh DeLong posted 37 kills on a .311 attack percentage last week. She recorded 21 kills against Murray State to mark her third match with 20 or more kills this season. Senior Molly Davis led the team with 16 digs against Murray State and followed that up with a match-best 14 digs versus UTM. Senior Sarah Barth averaged 12.00 assists and 2.86 digs per set last week. She recorded her third double-double of the year with a match-high 47 assists and 13 digs versus the Racers. Southeast Missouri will travel to SIU Edwardsville on Tuesday before hosting Morehead State on Friday and Eastern Kentucky on Saturday.

SIU Edwardsville ( 1-23 overall): SIU Edwardsville fell to Missouri (16-25, 21-25, 21-25) in its only match of the week. Junior Sydney Winslow led the Cougars with 13 kills and added nine digs while freshman Sammi Minton recorded a team-best 15 digs. SIUE will host Southeast Missouri on Tuesday before traveling to UT Martin on Friday and Murray State on Saturday. The match with UT Martin can be seen on OVCSports.TV.

Tennessee State (2-11  OVC; 3-22 overall): Tennessee State fell to Eastern Kentucky (21-25, 18-25, 20-25) and Morehead State (16-25, 16-25, 26-24, 9-25) last week. Sophomore Shaquita Williams tallied 20 kills and 22.5 points last week. With 12 kills against Morehead State, she posted her 11th double-digit kill performance this season. Junior Kamille King led the Tiger defense with 27 digs to extend her double-digit dig streak to six matches. Senior Yamari Padilla-Collazo recorded a double-double with 25 assists and 16 digs against EKU. She finished the week with 66 assists. The Tigers will travel to Tennessee Tech on Friday and Jacksonville State on Saturday. Both matches can be seen on OVCSports.TV.

Tennessee Tech (8-6  OVC; 9-14 overall):  Tennessee Tech fell to Jacksonville State (25-18, 25-23, 18-25, 28-40, 13-15) in its only match of the week. Junior Marie Peddicord led the team with 16 kills and a .484 hitting percentage. Freshman Kelsey Gray had a match-high eight blocks. Junior Melanie Culp dished out 58 assists in the match. She just missed her sixth straight double-double as she finished with nine digs. The Golden Eagles will host Tennessee State on Friday and Austin Peay on Saturday. UT Martin (2-13  OVC; 7-18 overall): UT Martin dropped matches to Eastern Illinois (25-21, 24-26, 15-25, 17-25) and Southeast Missouri (18-25, 15-25, 25-27). Junior Lauren Montague led the offense with 21 kills on 82 attempts. She also picked up 21 digs over the two matches. Freshman Kasey Elswick tallied 30 digs last week, including 22 against Eastern Illinois. Freshman Kelsey Miles dished out 42 assists, including 39 in the EIU match. UT Martin will host Murray State on Thursday and SIU Edwardsville on Saturday. Both matches can be seen on OVCSports.TV.
