Jacksonville State, Stallings Continue to Lead at O'Reilly OVC Men's Golf Championship

PADUCAH, Ky. - Not much changed from day one to day two at the 
2007 O'Reilly Ohio Valley Conference Men's Golf Championship which is being held at the Country Club of Paducah. Jacksonville State increased its team lead by nine strokes while Tennessee Tech senior Scott Stallings increased his individual lead by five strokes on Monday.

The final 18 holes will be played on Tuesday morning beginning at 8 a.m. The OVC Player and Coach of the Year awards will be handed out following the final round, as will an annoucement of the Tournament MVP and All-Tournament team. Live results can be accessed through links at OVCSports.com.

Stallings, the 2006 OVC Golfer of the Year and a 2007 All-OVC first-team selection, increased his lead of two strokes after Sunday's first round to seven strokes after the second round of 18 holes. Stallings fired a 3-under round of 69 on Monday and is now at 4-under for the event, seven strokes ahead of Jacksonville State's Daniel Willett. After four birdies yesterday, Stallings birdied an impressive seven holes on Monday, which helped him overcome a pair of double bogeys and increase his advantage. Stallings was the runner-up (by three strokes) at last year's championship.

JSU (+21), looking to claim its second OVC Championship (they also won in 2004), improved its team total by a stroke on Monday (298) but increased its lead to 11 strokes overall entering the final round of play. Willett, a first-team All-OVC selection, had a round of 74 (+2) on Monday and is at +3 for the event. Teammate Bryan Rozier had a round of 73 (+1) on Monday and is just one stroke behind Willett in third place. Julian Colmenares was the third Jax State golfer in the top 10, registering a round of 76 (+4) on Monday; he is in sixth place overall (+6).

The Gamecocks are 11 strokes ahead of defending champion Eastern Kentucky (+32). Austin Peay (+35) moved up to third place, Murray State is fourth (+44), Eastern Illinois is fifth (+46), Morehead State and Samford are tied for sixth (+50), Tennessee Tech is eighth (+54), Tennessee State is in ninth (+70) and UT Martin is 10th (+75).

EKU's Shaun McConnell, a first-team All-OVC pick this year, had an even-par round of 72 on Monday and climbed to fourth overall in the standings (+5) after entering the day in 13th place. Teammate Phil Hendrickson, a second-team All-OVC choice, is two strokes back in eighth place (+7). Hendrickson entered the day just two strokes off the individual lead.

Austin Peay improved on its first round by nine strokes on Monday and climbed into third place overall, just three strokes behind the Colonels. The Govs were led by Yoshio Yamamoto's even-par round of 72; Yamamoto moved up into fourth place overall (+5) after entering the day in 13th.

Murray State got a round of 74 (+2) from Jerry Price, who moved into 13th place (+9) after carding a score of 79 on Sunday.

Eastern Illinois is being led by senior Anthony Imburgia, who had a round of 76 (+4) on Monday, one stroke higher than his Sunday total. He is tied for eighth overall (+7).

Morehead State faltered slightly on Monday, combining for a team score of 320, 14 strokes higher than its first round total. The Eagles are, however, just six strokes out of fourth place. Senior Kyle Litter continues to lead the Eagles attack, as he carded a round of 80 (+8) on Monday; he is in 13th place overall after being second following Sunday's round.

Samford's Andrew Villarreal improved by two strokes from the first round, carding a 74 (+2) on Monday to move into sixth place overall (+6 for the event). Senior Reed Davis is two strokes behind Villarreal after a Monday score of 78 (+6); Davis is in 11th place overall (+8).

Tennessee Tech finds itself in eighth place overall, four strokes behind Morehead State and Samford. Although Stallings is at the top of the leaderboard, the next highest ranked Tech golfers are tied for 32nd place overall (+17) - John Fox and Barrett Steakley.

Tennessee State's Adam Gruber improved his score by three strokes from the first round with a round of 74 (+2) on Monday. That moved him into a tie for eighth place overall (+7).

UT Martin is being led by Trey McNeil. McNeil improved by four strokes on Monday and is now tied for 18th overall (+12).
