The Eastern Illinois men and women won their respective titles at the 2007 O’Reilly Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships in Charleston, Ill. The victory marked the seventh straight for the Panther men while it was the first for the women.
The EIU men had 207 points while Southeast Missouri took second with 135 points. Tennessee State finished in third, recording 95 points, followed by Eastern Kentucky (90), Samford (44) and Morehead State (38).
Eastern Illinois’ women recorded 132 points while Tennessee State finished in second with 117. Southeast Missouri placed third with 100 points, followed by Eastern Kentucky (64), Samford (63), Jacksonville State (62), Murray State (40.5), Austin Peay (30.5), Morehead State (9) and Tennessee Tech (5).
Tennessee State’s Dominique Rodgers was named OVC Male Athlete of the Championship. Rodgers won individual titles in the
60 meters (6.89), long jump (25’00.75") and high jump (6’09.50") while also taking second in the triple jump with a leap of 48’08.00".
TSU’s Dominique Ward added to her post season awards with the OVC Female Athlete of the Championship honor. Ward took first place in the 200 meters (24.64) and won her second straight 400-meter title with a time of 55.59. She also ran a leg of the 4x400-meter team that took first place with a time of 3:52.57.
EIU’s Tom Akers was chosen as the men’s OVC Coach of the Year for the seventh straight time while the Panthers’ Mary Wallace was named the women’s OVC Coach of the Year for the first time.
