Six OVC Women's Golfers Named NGCA All-American Scholars

Six Ohio Valley Conference female golfers have been honored as All-American Scholars by the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA). The honorees included Catie Tucker (Austin Peay), Alex Hinteregger (Murray State), Andrea Downer (Murray State), Bethany Yates (Murray State), Kirstin Fischer (SIU Edwardsville) and Sheena Collins (SIU Edwardsville).

A total of 410 women's collegiate golfers at the Division I, II and III levels were recognized with this prestigious honor.  The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 and student-athletes must have competed in at least 50% (Division I) or 66% (Division II & III) of the college’s regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.

Tucker recently completed her second APSU golf season. A psychology major, Tucker holds a 3.9571 grade-point average.  She has been a member of the President’s List (4.0 GPA) three of her four APSU semesters and earned Dean’s List recognition the other semester.  The Chattanooga native (Ootlewah High School) was a member of the Ohio Valley Commissioner’s Honor Roll (3.25 GPA for year) a year ago. Tucker played in all 12 tournaments this past season, averaging 81.8 strokes for her 30 rounds.


Hinteregger majors in nursing and had an 80.7 scoring average. She played in 10 of 11 events this season.

Downer is majoring in integrated studies and had an 80.4 scoring average in 2008-09.  Downer also played in 10 of 11 events this season.

Yates played in all 11 events, with an 80.6 average, and is a communication disorders major. She is on the list for the third time in her career.

Fischer, a biology major, competed in 20 rounds in nine tournaments this season. She finished this season with a round low of 81 at the Eastern Kentucky Invitational and the Butler Fall Invitational tournament. Her top finish of the season was 37th at the Butler Invite, where Fischer also turned in her best cumulative score of 166. 

Collins, an accounting major, played 18 rounds in nine tournaments last season. Her lowest round of the year was 81 at the New Wave Communications Classic, finishing 10th. Collins finished the season with a cumulative score of 166 at the Screaming Eagle Classic and the IPFW Fall Classic.
