Murray State golfer Jared Wolfe has qualified for the 84th US Amateur Public Links Championship after some outstanding play at Harpeth Hills GC in Nashville, Tenn.
Wolfe fired rounds of 65-69=134 to take one of two spots in a field of 56 competitors June 23.
A senior this fall at MSU, Wolfe (Louisville, Ky.) advances to the finals in Norman, Okla., July 13-18 at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club.
He qualified for the Pub-Links for the first time in three tries at the sectional level.
Another MSU senior this fall, Nick Newcomb (Benton, Ky.), played in the Pub-Links in 2006 and 2008 but finished second Sunday in the Evansville, Ind. sectional at Cambridge GC.
Newcomb fired rounds of 65-79=144 to finish runner-up in a field of 27 players competing for one spot.
The Pub-Links event has a format featuring 36 holes of stroke play to whittle the field of 156 competitors to 64. Match play is then used decide a champion.
To be eligible for the Pub-Links, a competitor must be an amateur player who since Jan. 1, has been a public course player with a Handicap Index of no more than 4.4 and not held playing privileges at any private course.
Newcomb and Wolfe are also planning attempts to qualify for the United States Amateur later this summer.
Newcomb will play in the qualifying sectional at Colonial CC in Memphis, Tenn. and Wolfe will tee it up in at Lakeside GC in Lexington, Ky.
