Baseball Recaps - May 13 5/13/2012 10:21:00 PM SUNDAY'S SCORES@Southeast Missouri 9, Murray State 8@Eastern Illinois 13, UT Martin 4Jacksonville State 4, @SIUE 3Tennessee Tech at Eastern Kentucky (cancelled) SOUTHEAST MISSOURI 9, MURRAY STATE 8CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri (19-33, 10-14 OVC) posted eight runs in the second inning on their way to a 9-8 victory over Murray State (22-30, 8-16 OVC) Sunday afternoon at Capaha Field. The Redhawks eight run inning was the second largest outburst of the season as Southeast plated 10 runs in the first inning against IPFW on February 27. Murray State opened the scoring with a run in the first inning off of Southeast starter Dylan Lynn. The junior threw three innings allowing five runs on four hits. Southeast responded in the second inning with eight runs. Eight different Redhawks scored runs in the frame as they pounded out seven hits. Jesse Tierney highlighted the frame with his first home run of the season over the right field fence. The three-run shot gave the Redhawks a 3-1 advantage. Trenton Moses extended his hitting streak to 20-games and his reaching base safely streak to 72 games with a two-run double down the left field line. Andy Lennington also added an RBI double for Southeast. Redshirt freshman Jason Blum and senior Kody Campbell added RBI singles in the second frame as Southeast batted around in the momentum turning stanza. The Thoroughbreds cut the Redhawks advantage to 8-6 in the fifth inning as their rally saw two runs in the third and fourth inning and one in the fifth. Senior Kenton Parmley extended the Redhawks lead to three at 9-6 in the bottom of the fifth inning with his ninth home run of the season. The solo blast rounded out the scoring for the Redhawks. Murray State attempted to complete their comeback with two runs in the sixth inning, but senior Ryan Prickett shut the Racers down throwing three innings allowing only one hit with four strikeouts earning his second win of the season. Sophomore Christian Hull got the final out via strikeout earning his fourth save of the season as the Redhawks took the game and the series from Murray State. Moses led the Redhawks going 3-for-5 on the day with two RBI and a run scored. Lennington, Blum and Cody Spanberger added Multi-hit contests with each of the underclassmen adding a pair of hits to the Redhawks 13 total hits on the afternoon. Parmley ended the day 1-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored to go along with three walks. Kyle Cornett (3-4) was tagged with the loss in his first OVC start as he went 1.1 innings allowing four runs on two hits. Brandon Eggenschwiler led the Racers going 3-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored.EASTERN ILLINOIS 13, UT MARTIN 4CHARLESTON, Ill. - Junior Nick Priessman and redshirt-senior Ben Thoma combined to go 3-for-9 with seven RBI, three runs and two homers to lead the Panther baseball team to a senior day victory over UT Martin on Sunday afternoon at Coaches Stadium. EIU improves to 24-25 (14-9 OVC) on the year.Trailing 2-1 entering the bottom of the third inning, the Panthers scored three runs on four hits to take a 4-2 advantage. All three runs were scored with two-outs in the inning. Matt Young got the Skyhawks within one (4-3) in the top of the fifth before EIU scored six runs in the bottom of the frame, making the score 10-3. A solo home run by Priessman scored the first run before Thoma drove in four runs with a grand slam. David Ciaglia followed Thoma with a solo homer over the left-field fence for the final run of the inning.EIU added three more insurance runs in the seventh, scoring three runs on two hits to take a 13-3 advantage. A solo home run in the eighth inning by Chase Okey pulled UT Martin within nine (13-4) to add the final run of the game for the Skyhawks. EIU had four more hits (12-8) than UT Martin while neither team committed an error in the contest. Both squads left six runners on base.Priessman paced the Panther offense as he was 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, a homer and a double. Thoma added four RBI while Ryan Dineen scored a game-high three runs. Caleb Howell chipped in two RBI and two hits.Christian Slazinik (6-5) picked up the win for EIU, striking out six while surrendering five hits and three runs in six innings of action. Matt Borens, Adam Clark and Scott Houdek all pitched one inning out of the bullpen to conclude the game and combined to only allow three hits and one run.Willie Frederick (3-8) was tagged with the loss for UT Martin as he allowed five runs and six hits in four innings of action. Okey led the Skyhawks at the plate as he went 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run.JACKSONVILLE STATE 4, SIUE 3EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Todd Hornsby picked up his 31st career save to tie the Ohio Valley Conference record as Jacksonville State claimed a 4-3 win over SIU Edwardsville on Sunday afternoon. Hornsby, a native of Clay-Chalkville, picked up his 11th save of the season after scattering three hits over the final 3 1/3 innings in relief to tie Eastern Kentucky's Joe Witten (1995-98) with 31 career saves. JSU's Hunter Rivers (4-3) picked up the win after allowing just five hits and recording four strikeouts for the Gamecocks. SIUE's Joshh Hoguet (2-6) suffered the loss after giving up seven hits and three runs. Jax State took an early 1-0 lead after Kyle Stone scored on a Kyle Bluestein sacrifice fly in the third inning, but the Cougars tied the game in the fourth inning on a RBI single by Zach Hawkins to make the score 1-1. The Gamecocks took the lead for good in the fifth inning after Kyle Bluestein reached on an infield grounder and stole second. Erik Underwood followed with a RBI single and scored when Cal Lambert doubled to right center to give JSU a 3-1 lead. Jax State extended the lead to 4-1 in the sixth inning after Scott Underwood led off with a triple and scored when Andrew Bishop doubled to left field. The Cougars got a run in the sixth inning on a RBI single by Hawkins and then scored in the ninth inning on a RBI double by Travis Becherer for the final margin. Erik Underwood, Scott Underwood and Adam Miller each had a pair of hits to lead the Gamecocks. Hawkins and Devin Caldwell each had two hits to lead the Cougars.
