TENNESSEE TECH 62, JACKSONVILLE
STATE 50
JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - Tennessee Tech drained seven
three-pointers in the opening half to spark a 62-50 win over Jacksonville State
in Ohio Valley Conference women's basketball action on Saturday at Pete Mathews
Coliseum.
The 12-point loss dropped JSU to 4-20 on the season and 1-10 in league
play. The Golden Eagles, who have now won five of their last six games,
pushed their season's mark to 11-14 and 7-4 in the OVC.
TTU was spot-on from behind the three-point arc in the game's first six minutes
as it scored its first 16 points from three-point range. The Golden
Eagles' first basket inside the arc came at the 11:18 mark of the first
half. The three-point shooting allowed TTU to maintain the advantage the
rest of the way after Jax
State posted the first
two points of the contest. Combined with Tech's scoring and the
Gamecocks' inability to put points on the board for a five-minute stretch, it
allowed the Purple and Gold to extend the lead out to nine points at the midway
point of the half. After JSU got within five points at 22-17 with 7:03
left in the half, Tech connected on three straight treys and eventually took
its largest lead of the contest at 34-17 at the 4:40 mark.
TTU finished the first 20 minutes 7-of-13 from three-point range and turned in
a 45 percent effort in the first half to take control of the contest.
Tech was limited to just one trey in the second half and finished shooting 39
percent from the field.
JSU clawed its way back to a ten-point contest right before the intermission on
a Briana Morrow lay up as both teams went to the dressing room with the Golden
Eagles holding a 36-26 advantage at the break.
Jax State kept it within ten points on two
occasions through the first seven minutes of the second half, but could not get
closer than that. Tech eventually equaled its largest lead of the game at
54-37 after Rachel Glidden hit its lone three-pointer of the half with 7:52
left in the game. Glidden finished the game with 14 points with 12 coming
from behind the three-point arch (4-of-6).
JSU's Danielle Vaughn turned in her ninth double-double of the season with 11
points and 13 rebounds. It marks her 16 of her career and second against
Tech this season. In the first contest in Cookeville, the junior post player tallied 11
points and ten boards. The Huntsville, Ala.-native also dished out three
assists and a pair of steals in 36 minutes of action.
Senior Brittany Manning posted her second consecutive double digit scoring
outing with a team-high 13 points. The Huntsville, Ala-product connected
in 6-of-9 from the floor and a career high three blocks. Manning has
scored in double figures in three of her last four games. Senior Destiny Lane
saw her five-game double figure scoring streak end as she was limited to eight
points. Morrow finished with six points, while freshmen Hannah Miller and
Miranda Cantrell chipped in five points each off the bench.
Tech was led by Jala Harris and Molly Heady with 15 points each. Tacarra

Valley) held the Tigers
(8-16, 4-8 OVC) to 22.5 percent shooting, the lowest percentage they have
yielded all season. TSU was the third-highest scoring team in the OVC (70.1
points per game) overall and the second-most explosive offense (76.7 points per

Redhawks a 39-24 lead with 12:23 left.
The Redhawks were still up 43-28 with eight and a half left after a Bailie

and trimmed the lead to 43-36. Bianca Beck stemmed the tide with a pair of free
throw makes to up the lead back to nine. After a defensive stop, Bradshaw got
to the line and hit two more freebies to put Southeast up by 11. The Tigers

minutes. Beck also banked in a mid-range jumper at the 15:38 mark to put
Southeast up 7-2.
TSU countered with seven-consecutive points to take its first lead of the game,
9-7, with 12 and a half minutes left in the first half. The Tigers' leading
scorer, Jasmin Shuler started the rally by rattling in a jumper then getting a
steal and a layup followed by a free throw to tie the contest. Destiny Gaston's
jumper put the Tigers in front, but a long jumper by Brittany Harriel evened
the score at nine apiece.
Beck caught an errant TSU pass and went coast-to-coast for a layup on the next
sequence, putting Southeast ahead 11-9. The Tigers came right back once again
with six points in a row as Alana Morris hit a jumper, Donyeah Mayfield split a
pair of free throws and Kesi Hess drilled a three-pointer in transition, making
it a 15-11 TSU lead.

remaining in the opening stanza. The score was tied at 15 after Bailie Roberts
and Harriel each converted from the floor about a minute apart. Karley Evans
found Harriel wide open near the basket for a layup, which put the Redhawks
back in front, 17-15, with 17-15. Shiffer extended the lead as she converted a
Harriel pass from in close, making it eight-straight Redhawk points.
TSU got within 19-17 on a Jasmin Shuler basket, but Southeast responded with
the next nine points. Allyson Bradshaw connected on a three-pointer form the
corner, Patricia Mack hit two free throws, Mack also knocked down a baseline
jumper and Bradshaw scooped home a left-handed layup to cap the run and make it
28-17.
