MOREHEAD, Ky. - Ty Proffitt, a senior on the Morehead State basketball team, has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District® First Team for a second straight year.

"Ty is a fantastic ambassador for our university and certainly deserving of this honor," Head Coach Donnie Tyndall said. "Ty is committed to academics, athletics, leadership and community service. We truly appreciate everything he's done during his time at Morehead State."

Proffitt, a native of London, Ky., is the only Eagle to start all 24 games this season. He is averaging a team-best 10.0 points in addition to 2.4 rebounds and 1.9 assists per outing.

In the classroom, the finance major owns a 3.82 grade point average. He has been named to the Dean's List each semester at Morehead State, has twice been a NABC Honor Court award winner and is a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society.

The 6-foot-4 guard is one of 21 individuals in school history to win the prestigious Ohio Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Award. He has also been named to the OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll four times and has been an OVC Medal of Honor recipient once.

In addition, Proffitt is involved with MSU's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Over the years, he has also worked with Relay for Life, addressed elementary school students and given leadership speeches at various basketball camps.

The nation is split into eight districts for this award. Morehead State is part of District II, which includes the District of Columbia, Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Proffitt will now be placed on the Academic All-America ballot.

Proffitt and the Eagles (12-12 overall, 5-5 OVC) return to the floor on Saturday at Eastern Illinois.
