EASTERN ILLINOIS 71, JACKSONVILLE STATE 55
CHARLESTON, Ill. - -Junior Sydney Mitchell scored 14 points to lead the Eastern Illinois women's basketball team over Jacksonville State, 71-55, on Saturday afternoon at Pete Mathews Coliseum. 

After trailing by five points with 15 minutes remaining in the first half, the Panthers used a 5-0 run to go ahead 10-7 and never trail again. EIU eventually took a double figure lead, 35-24, into the locker room when redshirt-freshman Katlyn Payne drained a three-point basket with seven seconds left on the clock.

The Gamecocks got within seven (35-28) on back-to-back baskets to open the second half before the Panthers rattled off 11 consecutive points capped by a Sydney Mitchell three pointer to take a 46-28 advantage. EIU would lead by double-figures for the remainder of the game.

Senior Chantelle Pressley was the only other Panther to score in double figures as she had 12 points. Payne added a season-high nine points while Kelsey Wyss chipped in eight points. A total of 10 EIU players scored in the game. Junior Ta'Kenya Nixon added seven points, five assists and five steals.

EIU outrebounded Jacksonville State, 42-36, led by Pressley who had a team-high six rebounds. All 12 players who played in the game had a rebound in the win.  

EIU shot 41.8 percent (23-for-55) from the floor in the game and 9-for-22 from behind the arc. The Panthers also went 16-for-24 from the foul line.

Destiny Lane led the Gamecocks with 11 points while Candace Morton chipped in 10. Danielle Vaughn grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds.

TENNESSEE TECH 82, EASTERN KENTUCKY 67
RICHMOND, Ky. - With the Eastern Kentucky leading by one, Tennessee Tech went on a 20-5 first half run on its way to an 82-67 victory on Saturday at McBrayer Arena. 

Tacarra Hayes led TTU (9-13, 5-3 OVC) with 21 points and 14 rebounds.  Marie Carpenter had a team-best 13 points for the Lady Colonels (10-10, 5-4 OVC).

Kylie Cook scored eight straight to cap the Goln Eagles run, including a pair of three-pointers off back-to-back EKU turnovers.  Her lay-up off a third straight giveaway capped the run and put TTU in front by 14, 42-28, with 5:14 left in the first half.

The Lady Colonels closed out the first half with a 14-4 run of their own to close to within four at the break.  Carpenter's transition three-pointer from the right wing made it 46-42

Tech connected on 55 percent of its first half shots, including 4-of-5 from behind the arc.  Eastern Kentucky shot 45 percent in the first half and hit 5-of-10 from deep, but was out-rebounded by 10.

EKU never got closer than four.  The Golden Eagles opened the second half with an 8-2 run to go up by double figures, 54-44, with 15:26 left to play.  Hayes scored five of the eight, including three on an old-fashioned three-point play.

Tennessee Tech shot 48 percent for the game and 54 percent from three-point range.  Eastern Kentucky made 34 percent of its shots and 32 percent from deep.  The Golden Eagles held an eight-rebound advantage.

Jade Barber had 12 points and six rebounds for EKU.  Alex Jones added 11 points and seven boards.

Molly Heady, Rachel Glidden and Brittany Darling each had 13 points for the visitors. 

TENNESSEE STATE 82, AUSTIN PEAY 77
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee State University battled all night and came out on the winning end of an, 82-77, decision, on the road at Austin Peay Saturday night in the Dunn Center. 

With the win, TSU improves to 8-13 (4-5 OVC) and claims the season series over Austin Peay (5-17, 2-8 OVC).

Kesi Hess paced the Lady Tigers in scoring with 17 points while Destiney Gaston and Jasmin Shuler each tallied 14. Avery Jones and Kim Haynes also scored in double-figures for the Lady Tigers as they both registered 10 points.

Austin Peay was led in scoring by Whitney Hanley's 30 points while Jasmin Rayner posted13 as Shelby Olszewski and Kaitlyn Hill added 10.

The game was tied, 4-4, when Kim Haynes made a three-pointer and sparked a 9-1 run that gave Tennessee State a, 13-5, advantage. Austin Peay answered with seven straight points to close within one before Kesi Hess nailed a triple to snap a three-minute scoring skid for TSU.

The Lady Tigers increased the lead to 22-18 following four unanswered points by Kim Haynes but Austin Peay responded with a, 9-0, run to take a, 27-22, advantage with about six minutes left in the first half.

At nearly the five-minute mark, Jasmin Shuler buried a 15-footer to end another (four-minute) scoring drought for the Lady Tigers. Chelsea Hudson hit a free-throw to tie the game at 27-all before a 6-0 rally made the score, 33-27, in favor of TSU.

The Lady Tigers carried a, 36-30, lead into the halftime break.

In the second half, Avery Jones scored four quick points to put TSU up, 40-30. A Lady Gov free-throw cut the deficit down to nine but the Lady Tigers went back ahead by double-digits on the next play.

A bucket by Chelsea Hudson made TSU's lead, 48-36, with four minutes ticked off the clock before Austin Peay rallied to cut the TSU lead down to, 50-44. After chipping at TSU's lead, APSU pulled within one, 58-57.

TSU used lay-ups from Destiney Gaston and Chelsea Hudson to go ahead, 63-57, but Austin Peay would not go away. The Lady Tigers were up, 67-64, with 5:05 on the clock and outscored the Lady Govs, 9-6, over the next  four minutes to go up, 76-70 with 54 seconds left to play.

Hanley scored to pull APSU within two but Kesi Hess knocked down a couple freebies to make TSU's lead, 78-72, with 35 seconds left.

Austin Peay closed within three, 80-77, with 11 seconds left but after being fouled, Hess buried another couple of free-throws to ice the win.

Tennessee State shot 42.4 percent (28-of-66) from the field and 29.4 percent (5-of-17) from three-point range. The Lady Tigers knocked down 75 percent (21-of-28) of their free-throws.

Austin Peay went 27-of-69 (39.1 percent) from the field and 6-of-21 (28.6 percent) from long range.

TSU held the edge in rebounds, 44-40, while both teams recorded 19 turnovers.

UT MARTIN 88, SOUTHEAST MISSOURI 47
MARTIN, Tenn. - Sophomore Heather Butler led all scorers with 25 points and The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team recorded its best defensive performance of the season in an 88-47 Ohio Valley Conference victory over Southeast Missouri at the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center.          

Butler was incredibly efficient from the field, canning 10 of her 15 field goal attempts this evening. The sophomore from Medina also added five assists and three steals in 33 minutes.           

Joining Butler in double-figures was Jasmine Newsome (19 points), Jaclissa Haislip (11) and Beth Hawn (10 second-half points on a perfect 4-for-4 performance from the floor). Newsome also handed out a game-high seven assists, while Shelby Crawford (seven rebounds) and Perica Glenn (six rebounds) helped the Skyhawks outrebound Southeast Missouri by a 34-31 margin.          

UT Martin (12-8, 6-1 OVC) led 33-25 at the break, but put the game out of reach by shooting 67.9 percent (19-for-28) in the second half. Overall, the Skyhawks posted a season-highs in field goal percentage (58.2 percent) and steals (13), while limiting their opponents to a season-low 47 points - one point less than Belmont scored in the season-opener on Nov. 11.

UT Martin's defense held the Redhawks scoreless for a stretch of 8:08 to close out the first half and begin the second half. That - combined with the scoring prowess of Butler and Newsome - ultimately proved to be the difference in the game.        

Bailie Roberts' 19 points led Southeast Missouri, who falls to 4-17 with a 1-7 OVC mark. Courtney Shiffer added 14 points for the Redhawks, who shot 32.7 percent from the field and committed 22 turnovers        

The score was tight early, but Haislip drained back-to-back three-pointers in a span of 40 seconds to put UT Martin ahead 8-6. Southeast Missouri took a pair of one-point leads over the next four minutes, but an 8-0 run by the Skyhawks - capped off by a pair of Crawford free throws - resulted in a 21-14 advantage for UT Martin midway through the first half.          

Layups by Crawford and Rickiesha Bryant extended the Skyhawk advantage out to nine points but Southeast Missouri scored five unanswered points to pull within 29-25 with 3:09 remaining in the half. However, a jumper by Butler and putback by Glenn closed out the scoring in the first half to make the score 33-25 at the half.         

Butler amassed nine points in the first half to lead UT Martin, while Roberts' 10 points paced the Redhawks in the first 20 minutes.         

Butler helped the Skyhawks race out of the gate in the second half. The 5-6 sparkplug sank a jumper just 14 seconds into the half, then later tallied nine straight points for UT Martin - igniting a 15-0 run to begin the second stanza. 

After Southeast Missouri ended its scoring drought with 15:01 remaining, the Skyhawks answered with their other offensive weapon in Newsome. The Millington native poured in nine straight points in a span of 1:33 to give UT Martin a 57-30 lead with 13:12 left to play.     

The Redhawks would not get any closer than 28 points the rest of the way, as the Skyhawks were able to stretch their lead out to 41 points - the largest lead of the game - on a Hawn layup with 28 seconds to go.
