Three OVC Teams Ranked in Preseason Country Country Regional Rankings 9/1/2010 7:41:00 PM USTFCCCA ReleaseThree Ohio Valley Conference cross country teams were among the squads ranked in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) regional rankings which were announced this week. The rankings are a reflection of a team's strengths entering the year based on returning and new runners on each squad as selected by a representative in each region.In the women's ranking Eastern Kentucky, the OVC preseason favorite, is ranked ninth in the Southeast Region. That is one spot better than they finished in last year's year-end ranking.In the men's rankings Eastern Kentucky, also the OVC preseason favorites, were tabbed 15th in the Southeast Region while Jacksonville State was 13th in the South Region. EKU finished seventh in the Southeast Region last year (but lost OVC Champion Wesley Ruttoh) while JSU was 19th in the South's final ranking a season ago.The 2010 cross country season gets underway this weekend with OVC teams getting their first regular season competition.The NCAA Regional Championships will take place on November 13 at nine sites http://www.ustfccca.org/ustfccca-calendar/future-collegiate-championships). The top two teams in each region earn automatic berths to the national NCAA Championships and will be joined by 13 at-large squads - a format that has been in place since 1998. The NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships will be held on Monday, November 22 in Terre Haute, Ind.
