Former Eastern Kentucky University corner back Antwaun Molden was selected by the Houston Texans in the third round (pick #79) in the 2008 NFL Draft on Sunday. Molden is the first Colonel to be picked in the NFL Draft in four years.
He was the second OVC player selected this season; Tennessee State's Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie was a first round selection on Saturday.
The native of Cleveland, Ohio, led the Colonels with nine pass break-ups in 2007 while finishing fifth on the team with 70 total tackles. Against Eastern Illinois on Oct. 6, the 6-2 corner back held Micah Rucker, a 2006 third team All-American and 2007 first team All-OVC pick, to just two catches for 13 yards. Molden started every game as a senior while recording interceptions in wins over Southeast Missouri (Oct. 13) and Tennessee State (Oct. 20).
Molden was the earliest EKU player to be drafted since Jason Dunn was taken in the second round by the Philadelphia Eagles in 1996.
Houston finished the 2007 season 8-8 overall, its best mark since beginning play in the NFL in 2002.
