The Jacksonville State volleyball team will face off with Florida A&M in the first round of the 2009 NCAA Volleyball Championship. The match will take place in Tallahassee, Fla. on Saturday, Dec. 5. The match will be played at 1 p.m. CT.
The Ohio Valley Conference Champion Gamecocks (26-7) drew the Rattlers (17-9) on the first day of the four-team regional at Florida State University. The Seminoles, who earned the No. 3 National Seed, will face Alabama A&M at 4 p.m. on Saturday in the other match at the site.
The winner of each match will play on Sunday to determine who advances to the Minneapolis Regional.
The Gamecocks will be making their third appearance in the NCAA's 64-team championship field in the past five seasons and are making their first appearance at a site other than Knoxville, Tenn. JSU fell to Tennessee in the 2005 tournament before losing to San Diego to start the 2006 championship, both on the campus of the University of Tennessee.
The Gamecocks and Rattlers have met twice before, with JSU winning both meetings. The last meeting came in the 1998 Ole Miss Invitational, while the two met first in the 1996 Stetson Invite. Both meetings were 3-0 wins by JSU. Of the remaining teams in the Tallahassee field, the Gamecocks are 1-0 against Alabama A&M and have never played Florida State.
