WRIGHT STATE 3, MOREHEAD STATE 1
MOREHEAD, Ky. - Wright State scored three first half goals and defeated Morehead State 3-1 in soccer action Sunday afternoon at Jayne Stadium. The loss drops the Eagles' record to 1-4-0 on the season. WSU improves to 2-2-0.
The Raiders netted the first goal in the 8th minute when Brittany Persaud crossed a ball into the six yard box and Morgan Butler flew into the middle and knocked in the header past Eagle goalkeeper Lily Meisner.
In the 40th minute Amber Kasmer broke free past the Eagle defense and was threating from the 18 yard box, Meisner came out to stop Kasmer at the top of the box and after Meisner and Kasmer collided a penalty kick was called. Kasmer would cash in on the PK and score the Raiders second goal of the game.
In the last minute of the first half, Morgan Hendrickson skied a ball from 30 yards out and the ball sailed just under the cross bar, as the Raiders took a 3-0 lead into the half.
The Eagles were able to get on the board in the second half in the 83rd minute when junior forward Devan Jordan played an incredible through ball to Erin Adams down the middle of the field. Adams used some nifty footwork and beat Wright State goalkeeper Meghan Hackerson for her fourth goal of the season.
MSU had many opportunities during the match as they out-shot Wright State 16 to six and had a six to four advantage in corner kicks. The Eagles were called for 13 fouls and Wright State was credited with 11.
Raider goalkeeper Brooke McCurdy notched 10 saves and Meisner stopped two Raider shots. Adams led the Eagles with six shots and Jordan fired two. Alyssa Nacke and Brittany Kiracofe also fired two shots in the match.
SIU EDWARDSVILLE 4, IPFW 3
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Kristen Dailey scored twice, including the game winner, as Southern Illinois University Edwardsville women's soccer upended IPFW for its fourth straight victory to open the 2010 season.
SIUE, 4-0, outlasted IPFW in what was a hard-fought game for both teams.
Referees handed out seven yellow cards in the contest that was filled with scoring opportunities.
Dailey scored her game winner at 83:54 off a header past IPFW goalkeeper Kristen McFadden. The play was set up on a corner kick taken by SIUE sophomore back Jenny Humphrey.
The Cougars and the Mastodons kept the offensive pressure up all game. IPFW, now 1-4, took the lead at 16:16 when Lisa Underwood scored on a header from six yards out.
The Cougars, however, would hold a lead as the team's headed into the locker room at halftime. Ashley Davidson scored her first career goal from six yards out at 22:33. Dailey scored her first goal of the game to put SIUE up 2-1.
Dailey took a cross from Brittany Bodziak and redirected the ball into goal at 32:49 as she slid near the goal.
Underwood would score her second goal of the game five minutes into the second half on a penalty kick. That evened the score at 2-2.
Kaci Harkey helped the Cougars regain the lead at 55:18 by scoring her second goal in as many games. Harkey scored unassisted when she took advantage of an IPFW defensive letdown and drove the ball over McFadden's head. Burton said the shot was created off a restart when Kourtney Price threw in the ball in. In getting the ball in position, Harkey made a quick one-timer to score.
IPFW, which outshot the Cougars 13-9, came back once more as Mason made it 3-3 with a tap-in off a corner kick from Justine LeBlanc at 61:46.
Dailey then put the final touch on the scoring with her second goal of the game.
INDIANA STATE 2, EASTERN ILLINOIS 1
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Indiana State scored with 26 seconds remaining in double overtime to deal Eastern Illinois women's soccer a tough 2-1 loss Sunday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.
Elise Farrelly scored her first collegiate goal, a first-half equalizer in the 27th minute, to end the Panthers' scoring drought at 316 consecutive minutes. She scored from the top of the 18-yard box with a shot that she lofted over the head of ISU goalkeeper Emily Lahay as Farrelly was turning into an attacking position. She became the first EIU player to score her first career goal this fall.
Eastern (2-3-1) was seconds away from salvaging a draw despite getting out shot by a 23-9 margin. Casey Clark scored the golden goal in the 110th minute when she headed in a free ball that began as a cross from the right flank. Goalkeeper Kaylin Lorbert punched the ball out initially, but Clark was unmarked and capitalized on the opportunity for her second goal of the day.
Three of the Panthers first six games this season have gone to overtime. Eastern is now 1-1-1 in those games and 2-3-6 in overtime affairs under head coach Summer Perala. Dating back to last season, three of EIU's last six losses have come in overtime, all away from Charleston. Indiana State (3-2) has beaten the Panthers in overtime in each of the last two meetings in Terre Haute.
Farrelly accounted for three of EIU's nine shots, putting all three on goal. Lahay stopped the other two for her only saves of the day. Lorbert finished with four saves.
Sam Balek and Hillary Blake went the distance among the EIU field players. Lauren Hoppensteadt logged 53 minutes to lead the reserves.

EASTERN KENTUCKY 0, VALPARAISO 0
VALPARAISO, Ind. - The Eastern Kentucky University women's soccer team bounced back from a home defeat on Friday by going on the road and battling Valparaiso to a double overtime scoreless draw on Sunday afternoon. In her first career start, freshman goalkeeper Lyndsay Vance played all 110 minutes and made nine saves en route to her first career shutout.
With the tie, EKU is now 1-4-1 on the year while Valpo remains undefeated at 3-0-2. The Crusaders, who were picked to finish third in the tough Horizon League before the season began, were off to their best four-game start in program history before Sunday.
Despite being outshot 21-9 on the day, the EKU defense held on for its second shutout of the season.
The Colonels almost won the game in the second overtime as freshman Nicole Donnelly fired a shot on goal; however, it was denied and the game ended in a draw.
Donnelly, senior Carly Muller, sophomore Katie Collar and freshman Brittany Nomady all led EKU with two shots apiece on the day.
Valpo's Luisa Desario led all players with seven shots on the day, three of which were on goal.
Like Vance, junior Heather Bruce and sophomore Deja Tennon played all 110 minutes of the hard-fought draw.
BALL STATE 3, SOUTHEAST MISSOURI 2
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The Southeast Missouri State women's soccer team saw their streak of nine-straight home games without a loss come to an end on Sunday afternoon. Ball State scored off a loose ball in front of the net 2:28 into the second overtime period to secure a 3-2 win over the Redhawks at Houck Stadium.
After a scoreless first overtime period, the Cardinals (4-2) went on the offensive with a shot by Missy Gordon that was blocked by a Redhawks (3-2) defender and went out of bounds for a Cardinals corner kick.
Sarah Orisich attempted the corner kick that the Redhawks defense failed to clear. The ball found itself back to Orisich who fired a point-blank shot that Ashton Aubuchon blocked but couldn't hold on to. The ball bounced across the goal-line despite junior defender Shona Goodwin's best efforts to stop it.
The loss snapped the Redhawks four-game home winning streak.
Trailing 2-1 late in the second period, freshman Stephanie Palmer tied the game in the 75th minute to force the overtime periods. After a Cardinal foul, Lauren Bozesky's attempted a shot that was blocked at the top of the box. The ball finally found itself to Siobhan Symington who chipped it to Palmer. Palmer blasted a low kick from the far left wing that froze goalkeeper Aubrey Buehler.
It is Palmer's fourth goal of the season tying her for the team lead.
The goal stopped a two-goal run by the Cardinals that gave them a 2-1 lead.
Maggie Brown scored the first goal for the Cardinal in the 31st minute. She later assisted on Amanda Dreyfus' goal in the 39th minute.
Those two goals negated the Redhawks goal scored in the 23rd minute.
Bozesky sent a cross from 30-yards out on the right wing to Ashley Runion who placed a perfect header pass the goalie from the top of the box.
It was Runion's fourth goal of the season and her 20th goal of her career. She became just the third player in the Redhawks program to reach that milestone joining Nichole Thiele (29) and Erika Todd (27).
For Bozesky it was her third assist of the season.
Aubuchon (3-2) faced 26 shots and finished with a collegiate best six saves.
TROY 5, AUSTIN PEAY 2
TROY, Ala. - Sophomore Jocelyn Murdoch scored two goals, but Austin Peay State University women's soccer team lost, 5-2, to Troy, Sunday, in the final game of the Troy Invitational. Not only was it the season's first loss, it also marked the first goals scored against the Lady Govs in 2010.
The Trojans capitalized on a corner kick to score in the sixth minute and take an early lead, only to find the back of the net again in the 23rd minute to go ahead, 2-0. Murdoch brought Austin Peay closer with a 41st minute goal to make 2-1 before halftime.
A one-goal game at the half had the Lady Govs in a seemingly good position, but rather than build on Murdoch's late first-half momentum, Austin Peay allowed another quick goal to Troy only three minutes into the frame. Murdoch scored again in the 78th minute, but the Lady Govs simply failed to match Troy's intensity.
The loss brought Austin Peay's five-game win streak to an end, while their shutout minutes ends at 456:18. Both stand as program records.
Austin Peay continues road play, next week, at the Jacksonville State Invitational, hosted by Ohio Valley Conference member Jacksonville State. The Lady Govs will play Southern and Southeastern Louisiana.
TENNESSEE TECH 3, UNC ASHEVILLE 1
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - Over 500 fans "crammed the complex" on Sunday afternoon to support the women's soccer team at their first home match of the season against the UNC-Asheville Bulldogs.
Tech dominated the first half of play, maintaining possession for the majority of the half in their attacking end and peppering Bulldog keeper Megan Dent with seven shots to Asheville's four. However, the score remained even at 0 at the end of 45.
Momentum continued for Tech heading into the second half, and less than two minutes in sophomore Sarah Gawthrop collected the ball off Kerri Reid's feet on a trip to notch her first goal of season.
A mere eight minutes later, Reid earned her second assist of the game when she hooked up with Andrea Meloff, who punched a low shot past Dent on the dive to give the Golden Eagles the 2-0 lead.
Asheville got their first break of the game in the 86th minute of play, narrowing the score to 2-1 on an unassisted goal by Ferriss Roberts over keeper Becca Toler's head. Tech, however, was unshaken, and immediately answered with an unassisted goal by the 2009 Co-Freshman of the Year, Kris Cambron.
Cambron logged seven of Tech's 20 shots on the day, while eight other players combined for the remaining 13. Toler played all 90 minutes for Tech, making two saves on the day and earning her first career win, while Dent posted six saves for Asheville.
